Bruuuuuuuce!!!

This past Monday, I saw Bruce Springsteen with my good friend Pam, at her suggestion. We were both Springsteen 'virgins' and I was fasinated by his show.  Pam *really* seemed to get into it. I was ok with it. I am not sure why. Maybe if I was in front of him instead of so far off on the side, I would have been more captivated. But we were so close... I was 6 rows up from the stage, Nils side.  My sound really was muffled. But it was Bruce and it was certainly something to see. I can't say that I could hear the words, so I am not sure what to say about his song writing from a Live perspective (as opposed to recorded). But the BIG music sound was great!! And Bruce's fans... wow. They have something they do for every song (or well known song, i guess). Swaying with hands in the air... what a sight to see ALL those folks doing that... and, being so far on the side, I had a great view of that. And... he cues them. The Boss I guess, lol.

And what it must be, to be on that stage. Having a whole sold out stadium of mostly older people, standing and swaying and singing and dancing. It SERIOUSLY was fun, a good time. How does he do it? Well, he has a lot of people on stage doing a lot of stuff. Lots to look at all the time. And there is not much pause in between the songs. He pretty much goes from one song to another. And he moves alot around the stage. And smiling, touching the crowd, passing something out, maybe picks, putting them into peoples hands. He saw a boy with a handicap next to Pam and was extremely kind to him, paying him some sort of personal attention. Yep, people like it when spirits are high and the person on stage is personal with them. Arkward when there is not a real connection. But making that real connection is important in getting all those folks to pay attention to a band for a SOLID two and a half hours. Bruce does not do a lot of musical breaks, it is mostly singing, telling his stories, I guess. (remember... muddy sound)

What else to learn about Bruce? he really loves giving his fans a good time. Right down to not wasting time. The encore was THERE and then the lights came on. Done. He came out at the stroke of the advertised beginning time. Professional with a heart. Yeah.

Brunch with Rick and Marilyn is BACK!

And... we are getting more light every day!!! Yeah!!!  We still have two live shows in February. The first is tomorrow at 9pm (yeah, i know! lol) to 12pm at the Centre Street Pub in Schenectady. Then, on Thursday the 15th we are back at Rock da Casbah in Saugerties. Hope you can catch one of those!!!  And then, you can also enjoy a show right on your computer, whereever you are!

To remind you how to enter the live stream, at 1 pm EST on Sundays. It is on Facebook and YouTube at the same time. The links are below. You can also see the video after we finish in either place. Whichever URL you go to, please keep refreshing the page until you see us. Sorry, the stream will not just start for you when we come on if you are just waiting at the URL, and that is how it works, nothing we can do but ask you to refresh your browser (in Chrome, it is a little circle arrow immediately to the left of the address bar, click it). Somewhere on the page while you are watching, there will appear 'Click here to get notified of future live streams by this artist' or something like that, and you can try that also to find us easier in the future.

And we have FUN! You are welcome to chat with the folks in the stream, it does not affect us playing at all!!!  And if you prefer to peak in, WE can not see when you come or go (ever), so come and see what it is about. If you want to let us know you are present, post!

One Late Summer Evening at My Local Theater

So, I just came back from seeing Jersey Boys (second row, center of theater in the round... ok, 3/4 round). It was wonderful. Songs that were songs you just gotta move to. And it is really tight in this low-budget local theater, making moving a little challenging. LOL. You know, you do the back-and-forth thing instead of side-to-side. The singing was well done...  think, this is Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, so it is expected that they nail it. Especially Frankie. And they do. Moved along quickly, telling the story well with entertainment. Great way to spend a little time.

But, I got stuck sitting next to THAT person.

The one that has to comment about everything to her friend, DURING the show, and NOT in a whisper. But that was not the only thing. She sang, every song, off-key, LOUD. I shot her a couple of 'those looks', but that didn't shut her up. The elderly lady next to me even did the death stare at her, to no avail.

So, break time!!! I am enjoying the show anyway, but I get ice cream and take a little walk before they come out and start ringing the bell to tell us, Show Time!!

As I sit in my seat, the loud woman says, 'Sorry if I offended you.'

'Excuse me?'

'Was my singing bothering you?'

'Well, yes, it was. I came to hear the show, not my seat neighbor'

'Why did you have to complain to the staff?'

'I didn't. Believe me, I would have told you to your face, not talked to the staff.'

'I am just enjoying the show'

'I go to rock shows where it is not welcome to have people singing loud next to you. This place is so small, with such good acoustics, it may have been the actors that told them to quiet you.'

Silence

For the remainder of the break, she kept talking, then saying to her friend, I better not talk, someone will get upset. (OBVIOUSLY not understanding!!!!)

After the show started again, she could not help but say ONE MORE THING.

'Just my luck, I have to get stuck next to some hippie!'
